New Resource: A Prayer for the Workers of Wisconsin

O God, who desires not sacrifice but mercy,
not a fast from food but from oppression in every form,
look with compassion on your people in Wisconsin,
part of whose legislature has locked the public

out of its chambers
and voted to end most collective bargaining rights

for state employees.

Anger rises, violence threatens,
but you, O Christ, show us the way of justice with peace.
Restore justice for those who are employed,

that employers and employees may again reason together,
and lead those who must confront
to speak and embody truth with love.

Kyrie, eleison.
Christe, eleison,
Kyrie, eleison.

  1. Brother Taylor -
Thank you for reminding us all that peace can not come without compassion in all areas of life and in all arenas of the world. Thank you for your compassionate prayer for localized unrest. May the Peace of Christ be upon everyone as they discern in the coming days and weeks.

  2. To one and all:

The purposes of this blog are to provide immediately timely resources that may take longer to post or may not work well for posting on the GBOD worship website and to discuss matters pertaining to United Methodist Worship.

For whatever reasons, this post has prompted a number of comments about the politics of this situation.

As the moderator for this blog, part of my role is to keep our conversations here on topic.

In light of that role, I have removed all of those comments-- including one of my own that sought to respond to some of these.

And I will remove any other comments that do not address this piece as it is offered-- as a prayer that some may find helpful for use devotionally or with their worshiping communities.

    Thanks for understanding.
